Further information

The village of Rein makes people happy. When you reach the inner valley of Taufers after an adventurous journey on the winding road that leads deep into the valley, the small village of Rein will surprise you. The landscape is unexpectedly beautiful, the valley more extensive than expected. Framed by mighty three-thousanders, the valley is protected by mother nature's proud-standing soldiers. None of them is more impressive than the Hochgall, standing 3456 metres tall, and considered one of the most beautiful peaks in the Eastern Alps. The inner valley is inhabited by people who have adapted to the environment in which they live, becoming a little like it themselves - sometimes harsh, sometimes a little uncouth, and yet so very welcoming. These people know how beautiful their little world is, they appreciate it, and love it with all their heart. It is with pride that they share their homeland with us.è molto facile. We meet at the Jausenstation Säge, a small restaurant. There is time for a "kleinen Schwarzen" (a "small black", meaning espresso) before we put on our snowshoes, shoulder our rucksacks and grab our walking sticks. After the first few awkward steps in your new, unusual shoes, you will soon be moving forward swiftly. After only very little practice, you will find snowshoe hiking a piece of cake! At an easy pace, we will hike up to the Furth Alm, a shepherd's hut where cattle craze in the fresh mountain air from June to September. Now, however, the tasty grass and herbs are hidden under a thick layer of white. During the winter, several metres of snow may cover up the alpine pastures, turning them into an entirely new, but beautiful word. We will make our way to the hut, where a hot drink, some tea from a vacuum flask or even a sip of schnapps will warm our bodies. Almost above our heads, there is the cascade of the Ursprung ("origin") waterfall. During the winter months, this waterfall turns into a giant of ice, popular for ice climbing. Watching them make their way up inch by inch, using sharp pricks and other equipment, is quite impressive. Our way back is a slightly different route which will take us back to the starting point, our rucksacks full of new experiences and winter impressions.
